Progress Reports on the Trip

This blog is intended to keep friends and family up to date as to the progress of:

     - Catboat OWL            Roger Klein, and

     - Catboat LOVINDE       Frank Kemp,

in the circumnavigation of Long Island in July 2014.

The plan is to travel "around" Long Island, a distance of about 250 miles, in roughly 10 days.

"Why" - you might ask - that is, if you don't know of our love for the Catboat, and our desire to get out and do new stuff, see new things.    A little more on the "Why" of all this - may be found on one of the pages to the right.

"When" - well - we believe we are starting out next Tuesday afternoon, July 1 - with the first leg of the trip to City Island, NYC - so as to be well positioned for Wednesday afternoon's slack current at Hell Gate at 2:00pm - and then the favorable current south, through, and out, of the the harbor in the balance of the afternoon.   Once through New York Harbor and safely behind Long Beach / Jones Beach - the leisurely part of the trip begins.

"How" - Safely, ...and, ... at our own pace, taking our time to enjoy the scenery, the breeze, and the pure joy of being out on a Catboat for a few days, punctuated, of course by good dinners, ashore.  We will be sailing only in the daytime, anchored or dock-side in the evenings.

"Where" - we plan to use this blog as way to report where we are - and where we think we will be the next day.  We have an excellent support system ashore - our mission's "Ground Control."   You can learn more about the help that our good friend, Peter Adler, is providing through his tech support of our trip, in one of the pages to the right.

That's about it!   Plan to come back to this blog      www.CatboatsForever.blogspot.com    (the caps don't matter - it just makes it easier to read) to see our position report, some journal notes along the way - and a prediction of where we will be, "tomorrow."    Since this is a trip from beautiful harbor to beautiful harbor, we hope that some local Catboaters will learn of our journey - our changing location, and that they will contact us for a meetup (a Gam!) and give us some advice on the next leg of our trip.   We will welcome any boating 'fellow-travelers' to accompany us on any leg of the trip.

Best to you all - thanks for looking us up!
               CATBOATS FOREVER !!!
