As a result of a good conference meeting at City Island this morning - the trip plan has been heavily revised. Remember the "most dangerous item on board?". Answer: A Schedule. Well, in that spirit we considered a number of factors:
- approaching Hurricane Arthur, which is going to make sea and coastal conditions unsettled for the next few days
- local forecast winds in the New York harbor, from the South approaching 25-30knots
- wind vs tidal current = steep waves
- Small Craft Warnings into he harbor are expected to be posted @ 1 pm today
(need I go on?)
- once through the Veranzanno - we need good to fair sea conditions to get around to the East Rockaway Inlet - and those conditions at the end of the day today - were not to be.
What we are going to do is: return with our good day-crew, who are here with us at the meeting - and at this writing - and have a pleasant return trip to our home ports. We will leave the boats 'loaded' - taking ashore only our dopp kits and electronics .... leaving the boats ready to go.
Over the next few days we will watch the progress of the storm - and its aftermath - and plan another departure - perhaps on Saturday (unlikely), Sunday or Monday.
So it comes down to: "Practice What We Teach," and to walk the walk, or sail the sail. Whatever. Check back on this blog from time to time - we'll keep it ticking - with a daily place-holder post, and then ramp up again when we know what our new schedule is.
